With 8 years he started to play cello and discovered his love for music. When visiting a violin maker with a broken cello, he got interested in this profession. He started an apprenticeship at the experienced craftsman Werner Voigt in Markneukirchen and later set up his own business.
The time he spent in Stade from 1991 to 1993 enabled him to work with the experienced craftsman Hubert Schnorr. He had the chance to study a lot of different instruments, work with new materials and try new techniques.
Since 1994 he set up his own workshop in Dresden. With him works now Andreas Thümmler, who finished his master craftsman examination in 2018, and his wife.
